The Pitaland Story
We are located in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Brookline and have been a proud part of the Steel City’s history of success and tradition for more than 50 years. Our bakery was founded in 1974 by George Chahine, who immigrated from Lebanon, starting out with a single oven bringing fresh pita bread to the Pittsburgh region. George later passed the business onto his brother Joe Chahine and Joe’s amazing wife Jocelyne. Over time, Joe and Jocelyne Chahine’s children (Danny, Joe, Donna and Aleen) have taken lead on growing the business, working side-by-side their parents.
Today, our commercial oven can produce as much as 10,000 loaves a day! In the more than 50 years since our start, our bread has become a Pittsburgh staple for households and restaurants, and our name has become iconic for quality Mediterranean food. In 2013, our store went through a major renovation and we added the Pitaland Café to provide freshly prepared items. In February 2023, Pitaland was recognized as one of the country's top restaurants, landing on Yelp's top 100 restaurants list.
